Crown Prince Birbhadra Shah also gave much importance to extend his cordial relations with the rulers of Nepal valley which was initiated by his father Prithvipati Shah. He made a visit to Kantipur, Patan and to Bhaktapur keeping in mind the importance of the diplomatic relation. The warm and cordial greetings which he received from King Bhupatindra Malla of Bhaktapur and the cold shoulder from Kantipur and Patan made him skeptic towards them.

As he was returning to Gorkha from Bhaktapur an he crossed the Trisuli river he fell sick and died. King Prithvipati Shah had to grieve upon the untimely demise of his son.
