not back-stamped with the name of the Head of the Postal Department

One day in 1953, the story goes, large quantities of the 4 Paisa envelope (van der Wateren No. 2) and of the 8 Paisa envelope (van der Wateren No. 3 were stolen. New envelopes were printed and the bigger part was back- stamped with the name of the Head of the Postal Department, Shri Bharatmani Adi (or Dikshit) to distinguish the new legitimate envelopes from the stolen ones.
