After the death of King Tribhuvan Bir Bikram Shah on March 13, 1955 his son Mahendra Bir Bikram Shah took over the government. The coronation took place on May 2, 1956 at the Royal Palace, Kathmandu. 1.400 American tourists, who had traveled to the coronation of the King following a unique advertising campaign of the Russian businessman Lissanewitsch, and the diplomatic representatives of 15 states acclaimed the royal couple, passing through the Hanuman Dhoka on the 55-year-old elephant by the name of Tribuhayan-Prasad.
