The “Nasiri Regiment”, later known as the 1st Gurkha Rifles, ca. 1857
Nepal sent Gurkha soldiers to the Sepoy rebellion to support the British. Cover sent from Lieutenant Katak Bahadur Basnyat to General Jagat Shumsher concerning an incursion of mutinous British/Indian troops into Nepalese territory in March 1858. Such incursions were a major problem for the Nepalese as the war drew to an end and various gangs of rebels fled from the British into the wilds of southern Nepal.
