1898, April 16. Double weight cover from from Kalaiya to Kathmandu,

franked with a pair of the 1 Anna imperforate, pale blue on Local paper of poor quality (No 14b)

The postmaster has applied his seal along wtih the manuscript date of departure and the name of the town, Gahawa.

The cover was sent by a high official from Kalaiya to Prime Minister Bir Shumsher Jung Rana, acknowledging receipt of a medal awarded for meritorious service in transferring important government offices from Kalaiya to the formerly insignificant border village of Gahawa (changed to Birganj after the move). The sender also enclosed a one Rupeecoin: a customary convention when acknowledging a significant honor, thus the double weight postage. The postmaster has applied his seal along wtih the manuscript date of departure and the name of the town, Gahawa, on the reverse side of the cover, used as a departure postmark
