The Kumari of Kathmandu

Trishna Shakya zieht als lebende Gottheit, als ihren Tempel am Durbar Square von Kathmandu. „Kumari“, die lebende Göttin in Kathmandu ist eine hinduistische Inkarnation der Göttin Taleju, eine Form der Göttin Durga, von Parvati, der Gemahlin des Gottes Shiva. Eine Kumari wird im Alter von 2-4 Jahren aus der Kaste der Goldschmiede nach 32 Merkmalen ausgewählt . Sie bleibt lebende Göttin bis sie etwa 12 Jahre alt wird, bis ihre erste Periode einsetzt. Nur an hohen Feiertagen darf sie ihren Tempel verlassen, den Straßenboden dabei nicht berühren und wird zu dem Prozessionswagen getragen.
